Top 20 PC Games of 2026: The Best Games to Play Right Now
Original illustration by Meta Protago. The numbered tiles stand for the 20 games in our list.
Picking a new PC game in 2026 is harder than it should be. Big hits keep landing every few weeks, and your wishlist is probably already out of control.
So we did the sorting for you. This list covers 20 games that came out on PC this year, from Resident Evil Requiem and Forza Horizon 6 to a surprise co-op hit called Big Walk. Every date and score here was checked on October 29, 2026. If you only want a shorter list, try our 10 best PC games of 2026 or the best PC games 2026 must-play list.
How We Ranked the Top 20
We didn’t just sort by score. A game with a great score can still feel dull, and a game with a lower score can be hard to put down. So each pick was weighed on three things.
- Critic scores. We mostly used OpenCritic’s Top Critic Average, plus Metacritic where it helped.
- Player response. Steam reviews and sales news told us which games people really kept playing.
- Variety. You’ll find racing, horror, RPGs, co-op, survival and more, so there’s something for every taste.
One more rule: every game here was released on PC in 2026. Older favorites like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Elden Ring are still wonderful, but they came out earlier, so they aren’t on this list. We also left out early access games, which you’ll find in the “More Games Worth a Look” section. Scores can change after launch, so treat them as a snapshot from October 29.
1. Forza Horizon 6
Open-world racingThis time the series heads to Japan, with an open world built around more than 550 cars. Critics loved it. It sat at the top of OpenCritic’s 2026 chart at launch, and it set a Steam record for the series before the official release day even arrived.
✓ Why We Like It
- The biggest and prettiest Forza Horizon map so far
- Over 550 cars to collect and tune
- Included with Game Pass on day one
✕ Keep In Mind
- It’s the familiar Horizon recipe, so don’t expect big surprises
- A big open world like this asks a lot from your graphics card
Good for: anyone who wants to relax and drive. Standard edition launched at $69.99.
2. Resident Evil Requiem
Survival horrorYou play two heroes in one story: FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and series favorite Leon S. Kennedy. GamesRadar+ ranks it first on its best games of 2026 list, and on OpenCritic it leads the horror category.
✓ Why We Like It
- A story that’s told from two different angles
- Looks and feels like a big movie
- Great scares, especially in Grace’s sections
✕ Keep In Mind
- Leon’s parts lean more on action than fear
- Gore is strong, so it’s not for everyone
Good for: horror fans and anyone who loves the older Resident Evil games.
3. Mina the Hollower
2D action-adventureImagine classic Zelda mixed with Bloodborne, drawn like a Game Boy Color game. You play a little mouse who can burrow underground and use gadgets to fight and explore. It scored 91 with critics.
✓ Why We Like It
- Gorgeous retro pixel art with real depth
- Burrowing and gadgets keep fights fresh
- Works well on Steam Deck
✕ Keep In Mind
- The fights are tough, so be ready to retry
- The retro look won’t suit everyone
Good for: players who like a challenge and a cozy-but-dark mood.
4. Big Walk
Online co-op adventureFrom the makers of Untitled Goose Game, this is a co-op game about walking, talking and solving puzzles together in a big open world. Two to twelve players can join, and crossplay works across platforms. Its publisher says it passed one million sales in just six days.
✓ Why We Like It
- Fun with 2 friends or a big group of 12
- Crossplay across PC, PS5 and Switch 2
- Cheap, at about $20 at launch
✕ Keep In Mind
- No single-player mode at all
- You’ll need voice chat and a bit of patience
Good for: game nights. If you build party lists, our best Gen Z games in 2026 guide has more picks like this.
5. Phantom Blade Zero
Wuxia action RPGA dark kung fu fantasy from Beijing studio S-Game, built around fast, stylish sword fights. It’s brand new, out today on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Its early critic score is 89, though that number may still move. Steam shows October 28 for some time zones, so don’t panic if it unlocks a little early.
✓ Why We Like It
- Fast, flashy combat
- A one-of-a-kind “kungfupunk” world
- Single-player story with no microtransactions promised
✕ Keep In Mind
- The PS5 download was reported at around 135 GB, so check the PC size first
- Very new, so patches and scores are still settling
Good for: action fans who finished Nioh or Sekiro and want more.
That’s the top five. Everything from here on is still a strong pick, and the order matters less than the genre you’re in the mood for.
6. Mewgenics
Roguelike tacticsIt sounds silly, and it is, in the best way. You breed cats, give them classes like in Dungeons & Dragons, and send them into turn-based fights. GamesRadar+ says every run has its own twists, from random weather to a mage who zaps your own party by mistake.
✓ Why We Like It
- Cat breeding adds a clever extra layer
- Funny writing and a strong soundtrack
- Every run feels different
✕ Keep In Mind
- Luck plays a big role, and some runs go wrong fast
- The weird style won’t click with everyone
Good for: roguelike fans and cat lovers.
7. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter
Fantasy JRPGThis is a full 3D remake of a much-loved JRPG from 2006. It picks up right after the first remake, as Estelle searches for her partner Joshua. Critics scored it 92, one of the highest scores on the PC list this year. A review at Kotaku put the length near 80 hours.
✓ Why We Like It
- Warm characters and a story people have loved for years
- Mix of action and turn-based fighting
- Great music and pretty towns
✕ Keep In Mind
- Play the 1st Chapter first, or you’ll be lost
- Very long, so plan your time
Good for: story lovers who don’t mind a long journey.
8. Esoteric Ebb
Narrative CRPGPicture Disco Elysium told through Dungeons & Dragons rules. You play a cleric who’s trying to solve a crime, and your own stats argue with you in your head. It was made mostly by one developer, published by Raw Fury, and PC Gamer scored it 90.
✓ Why We Like It
- Sharp, funny writing
- Dice rolls make failure interesting
- Only about $25
✕ Keep In Mind
- It’s reading-heavy
- It borrows a lot from Disco Elysium, so it feels familiar
Good for: people who love dialogue-heavy RPGs. Reports put the story at 25 to 40 hours.
9. Valheim
Viking survivalAfter more than five years in early access, Valheim reached version 1.0 this September. It brought the Deep North, the final biome, plus crossplay between PC and consoles. The studio says the game has sold over 17 million copies, so there’s a big crowd to play with.
✓ Why We Like It
- Build, explore and fight with friends
- Full crossplay with consoles
- Deep North adds a snowy new area to push into
✕ Keep In Mind
- Survival games take patience
- Start a fresh world to see the Deep North properly

✓ Why We Like It
- Big, cinematic dogfights
- Easy to pick up, hard to master
- A new game in a series people missed
✕ Keep In Mind
- Flight games are a niche taste
- Usually feels best with a controller or flight stick
Good for: anyone who has wanted to fly a jet without the homework.
12. Pragmata
Sci-fi actionA brand-new Capcom idea. You play Hugh, a lone survivor on a moon base, who teams up with a young android named Diana. You hack robots to expose their weak spots, then blast away.
✓ Why We Like It
- Fresh shooter idea: hack first, then shoot
- Sweet duo at the heart of the story
- Nice mix of puzzle and action
✕ Keep In Mind
- Story is lighter than the best on this list
- Takes a moment to learn the hacking
Good for: shooter fans who want something different.

- New movement and cover tricks
- On Game Pass
✕ Keep In Mind

- One PC review says ray tracing is required, so check your graphics card
Good for: series fans and people who like punchy cover shooters.
15. Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Samurai actionCapcom’s demon-slaying samurai series is back, with the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi at the center.
✓ Why We Like It
- Bold, stylish sword fights
- The classic Onimusha mood is back
- Capcom has had a great year
✕ Keep In Mind
- Scored a little below Capcom’s other 2026 hits
- It’s action first, so don’t expect deep systems
Good for: fans of Devil May Cry and Ghost of Tsushima-style fights.
16. Star Wars Zero Company
Turn-based tacticsIt’s XCOM in the Clone Wars era, as GamesRadar+ puts it. You lead a squad of operatives under a former Republic officer named Hawks. The writing and the villain get a lot of praise.
✓ Why We Like It
- Well-written squad members and side stories
- A villain who isn’t a Sith lord

✓ Why We Like It
- Strange, memorable world design
- Satisfying, fast melee
- Remedy’s fastest-selling game
✕ Keep In Mind
- Some critics found the combat repetitive
- Less gunplay than the first game
Good for: fans of weird, moody sci-fi.
19. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Military shooterThis year’s Call of Duty takes place during a war on the Korean Peninsula. On PC it comes with help from Beenox, and you can buy it on Steam, Battle.net or the Xbox app. Early Steam reviews of the campaign were unusually good, at around 90% positive.
✓ Why We Like It
- A campaign that players have praised
- Big list of launch maps
- Plenty of players online
✕ Keep In Mind
- Those early reviews covered the campaign only, so multiplayer verdicts are still coming
- It’s an annual series, so you may see familiar ideas
Good for: multiplayer fans and anyone who likes a blockbuster campaign.
20. Crimson Desert
Open-world actionThis is the most divided game on the list. Critics were mixed and Steam reviews started out “Mixed” too. But Pearl Abyss patched it quickly, Steam climbed to “Very Positive,” and the game passed 5 million sales in 27 days.
