September 2026 is one of the busiest months gaming has seen all year. Marvel's Wolverine lands on PS5 today, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave hits Switch 2 in two days, and PC players get two big horror and action releases on the same afternoon later this month.

If you have been trying to keep track of it all, this guide puts every confirmed date in one place. We have split it by platform, so you can jump straight to Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox, or PC. We also flag the games that moved, because a few dates you may have seen earlier this year are no longer correct.

Key Points
  • Marvel's Wolverine is out now, September 15, 2026, and it is a PS5 and PS5 Pro exclusive.
  • Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave arrives September 17 as the month's biggest Switch 2 release.
  • Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant both launch on September 24 for PC and PS5.
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered lands September 29, and it is a free upgrade for owners.
  • Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV slipped out of September and now arrives on December 3.

Why September Is So Packed

There is a simple reason this month feels so heavy. Grand Theft Auto 6 moved to November 19, 2026, and almost every other publisher wants to be far away from that date. So a lot of games that might have shipped in October or November got pulled forward into September instead.

The Switch 2 is also in its first full year, and that has changed the calendar too. Ports, remasters and brand new exclusives are all arriving at once. Nintendo added even more to the pile with a September Direct on September 9, and a separate Zelda 40th anniversary stream that finally dated the Ocarina of Time remake.

The month opened with a strong indie week. Moonlighter 2 arrived on September 2 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC, and if you want the full breakdown on that one we covered it in our Moonlighter 2 release date and price guide. The Blood of Dawnwalker, the vampire RPG from ex-Witcher developers at Rebel Wolves, followed a day later.

Switch 2 owners have the fullest month of any platform. The headline act is Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave on September 17. It is a brand new entry in Nintendo's turn-based tactics series, built around four heroes whose stories cross through time, and a competition called the Heroic Games where the winner is promised a single wish.

The following day brings LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which already launched on PS5, Xbox and PC in May. Gotham is an open-world map this time, and the game adds difficulty modes for the first time in the LEGO Batman series.

EA Sports FC 27 is worth a note if you play football games on the go. It launches worldwide on September 25, with Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Edition early access starting September 18. The Switch 2 version adds HDR, touchscreen support and GameChat, and it needs about 66.5 GB of free space.

Marvel's Wolverine is the big one, and it is out today. Insomniac Games built a single-player, story-driven action game rather than an open world, and it is exclusive to PS5 and PS5 Pro with no PS4 or PC version announced. Logan joins Team X and goes after Bolivar Trask, with Jean Grey, Sabretooth, Mystique and Omega Red all in the mix.

Pricing is $69.99 for the Standard Edition and $79.99 for the Digital Deluxe, with a $10 upgrade path if you start with Standard. Launch day includes New Game Plus, mission replay, photo mode and 35 accessibility options. Reviews have landed in the high 70s on Metacritic and around 79 on OpenCritic, with most critics praising the combat and Logan's writing while pointing at repetition and uneven pacing later on.

If you are catching up on recent PlayStation exclusives before this one, our Ghost of Yotei guide covers where that game stands on PS5 and PC.

Xbox players have a quieter September, but that is on purpose. Microsoft's big swing is two weeks away, and we cover it in the October section below.

New PC Games and Release Dates

PC gets the strangest traffic jam of the month. Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant release on the very same day, September 24. Townfall moves the series to a bleak version of Scotland, while Control Resonant follows Dylan Faden and leans harder into melee combat than the original did.

The other PC story is updates. Several long-running games are hitting version 1.0 this month, which usually means the biggest content drop those games have ever had. If you are building a shortlist for the rest of the year, our roundup of the best PC games of 2026 is a good place to start.

September 15, 2026 — Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is no longer a September game. The RTS was pushed from September 17 to December 3, 2026, and Commander Edition buyers get in three days early on November 30. Older calendars still list the September date, so double check before you plan around it.

Events worth watching this month

September is not just about launches. Tokyo Game Show runs a five-day schedule starting September 17, the PC Gaming Show returns on September 20, and Game Devs of Color Expo begins on September 22. BlizzCon already happened on September 12, and it brought news of Diablo 5 and a new open-world StarCraft shooter due in 2030.

What's Next: October to December 2026

Original illustration by Meta Protago.

October is when Xbox finally steps up. Gears of War: E-Day arrives October 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it is on Game Pass from day one. It is an Xbox console exclusive, so there is no PS5 version. Premium Edition buyers get up to five days of early campaign access starting October 1.

The rest of October is stacked too. Ace Combat 8 lands October 2, Kingdom Hearts Collection 1-3 and Hell is Us hit Switch 2 on October 8, Planet Zoo 2 arrives October 13, Capcom brings the Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 remakes to Switch 2 on October 16, Final Fantasy Resonance and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort share October 22, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 lands October 23, and Phantom Blade Zero closes the month on October 29.

November belongs to two games. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake arrives November 5 on Switch 2, and then Grand Theft Auto 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has held that date since November 2025, and pre-orders are live. PC players still have no date. If you want the full picture, we track everything in our GTA 6 release date, trailer and map guide, and we compare the new game with its predecessor in GTA 6 vs GTA 5.

December brings Dawn of War IV on December 3, Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2 on December 4, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam on December 10, and Path of Exile 2's full launch on December 11.

Note: Release dates change often, and this month alone we have seen one September game slide to December. Always check the official store page for your platform before you pre-order or plan around a date.

What Players Are Saying

The general mood online is happy but stretched. A common joke on Reddit and Discord right now is that the backlog is growing faster than anyone can play, and plenty of people are openly choosing between Wolverine and Fire Emblem rather than buying both.

Wolverine has split opinion the most. The fighting and Logan's characterisation get a lot of praise, while the criticism tends to focus on repeated encounters and hand-holding in the mission design. Switch 2 owners, meanwhile, have mostly been reacting to value. The free Witcher 3 upgrade landed well, but the lack of an upgrade path for the Octopath Traveler re-releases in October did not.

The other recurring theme is scheduling. Putting Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant on the same day frustrated a lot of horror fans, since both would normally get a clear week to themselves.
