Rockstar still hasn't said one official word about a GTA 6 PC version — no specs sheet, no Steam page, nothing. That hasn't stopped people from typing "can my PC run GTA 6" into Google every single day. Here's an honest, no-hype answer, built from what we actually know right now.

Grand Theft Auto VI is locked in for November 19, 2026, but only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC release will almost certainly follow, just like it did for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, but Rockstar hasn't given it a date. That gap is exactly why so many "leaked requirements" pages have popped up lately, and why it's worth separating the real signals from the guesswork before you spend money on new hardware.

Key Points
  • GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, but only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — there's still no PC release date.
  • Rockstar has not published any official PC system requirements. Every "leaked spec sheet" online right now is a guess.
  • Analyst estimates point to a 6 to 8-core CPU, 16 to 32GB of RAM, and a GPU with at least 8GB of VRAM for a comfortable 1080p experience.
  • The viral claim that GTA 6 needs 676GB of storage was a fake image, and Rockstar denied it directly.
  • A more realistic storage estimate, based on how the console version is shaping up, sits between 200GB and 300GB.
  • If your PC already struggles with GTA 5 or Cyberpunk 2077 on medium settings, plan on an upgrade before the PC version arrives.

Is GTA 6 Even Coming to PC?

Short answer: almost certainly yes, eventually. Longer answer: not for a while, and not on day one. Rockstar has locked in November 19, 2026 as the release date for GTA 6, but that date only covers PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no Steam listing, no Epic Games Store page, and no PC box art anywhere.

That's actually normal for Rockstar. GTA 5 launched on consoles in 2013 and didn't reach PC until 2015. Red Dead Redemption 2 took about a year to make the jump. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said, in his own words, that nearly all of the company's big titles end up on every platform eventually, which most people are reading as a soft confirmation that GTA 6 will land on PC too. He just won't say when.

So if you're wondering why "GTA 6 PC requirements" pages are already flooding search results, that's why: everyone is guessing ahead of the actual announcement. If you want a sense of how demanding the game already looks in action, our breakdown of GTA 6's Xbox Series X performance modes is a good next read, since it shows the kind of visual fidelity a PC version would need to match or beat.

Set your expectations early: based on past Rockstar ports, a PC version arriving sometime in 2027 is a reasonable guess — but it's still just a guess. Don't buy new hardware based on a date nobody has confirmed.

Predicted GTA 6 PC Requirements

Every "requirements list" you see right now, including ours, is built the same way: by looking at what GTA 5 needed, how demanding the new RAGE 9 engine appears to be from the trailers, what similar open-world games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2 ask for, and what a typical gaming PC looks like in 2026. None of it comes from Rockstar. Treat the numbers below as a planning guide, not a promise.

Why VRAM matters more than usual: in 2026, the size of a GPU's memory is arguably a bigger factor than its raw speed. Open-world games with dense, high-resolution cities eat through video memory fast, so an 8GB card can bottleneck even when the chip itself is fast enough.

Can an i5 12th Gen Run GTA 6?

Yes, in all likelihood — at 1080p, on medium to high settings. An i5-12400 or i5-12600K sits right inside the six-core range that most analysts expect GTA 6 to target for its minimum and recommended tiers. GTA games have traditionally leaned harder on the GPU than the CPU, so a 12th Gen i5 paired with a solid graphics card should hold its own.

The one thing worth watching is NPC and traffic density. The GTA 6 trailers show a noticeably busier world than GTA 5 ever had, with more pedestrians, more vehicles, and more background simulation running at once. That kind of load tends to hit the CPU, not the GPU. If you're on a 12th Gen i5, you may need to dial down crowd density or traffic settings on Ultra to keep frame rates smooth, even if the rest of your system can handle it.

Can I Run GTA 6 on an RTX 4060?

Probably yes, but with a catch: the RTX 4060's 8GB of VRAM is more likely to hold you back than its actual GPU horsepower. Modern open-world games are memory-hungry, and 8GB has quietly become a tight fit for anything above 1080p medium-to-high textures. Expect to run GTA 6 comfortably at 1080p, but you'll probably want Texture Quality set to Medium rather than High or Ultra to avoid stuttering.

If you're buying new and can stretch your budget, an RTX 4060 Ti with 16GB of VRAM gives noticeably more headroom for the same generation of GPU. On the AMD side, the RX 7700 XT or newer RX 9060 XT are solid alternatives that tend to ship with more memory at a similar price. Laptop RTX 4060 chips are a separate story — they run roughly 15 to 20 percent slower than the desktop version of the same name, which we cover more in the laptop section below.

Will GTA 6 Need 32GB RAM?

Need? No. Benefit from? Yes. Most current estimates put 16GB as the realistic minimum, which lines up with where GTA 5 and most 2026-era open-world games sit. But 32GB has become the comfortable, future-proof choice for a reason: it gives the game room to breathe alongside Discord, a browser with forty tabs open, or recording software, without forcing Windows to dip into slower virtual memory.

There's also a longer-term argument for 32GB. GTA Online turned GTA 5 into a game people were still actively updating and playing a decade later. If GTA 6 follows the same playbook, its online mode will likely grow heavier over time through content updates, which tends to push RAM usage up, not down.

For a laptop that can handle GTA 6 without constant compromise, aim for an RTX 4070 mobile GPU or better, 16GB of RAM at minimum (32GB if you can afford it), and an NVMe SSD with plenty of free space. But the spec sheet only tells half the story with laptops — cooling matters just as much as the chip itself.

Laptop GPUs of the same name as their desktop counterparts are usually 15 to 20 percent slower out of the box, and that gap widens further once the laptop starts thermal throttling during a long open-world session. A thin, light gaming laptop with a "top" GPU on paper can still underperform a bulkier machine with a lesser chip, simply because it has room to keep that chip cool. If a laptop's marketing leans heavily on how slim it is, be a little skeptical about its sustained gaming performance.

Since there's no PC release date yet, it doesn't make sense to buy a laptop purely for GTA 6. Not 676GB, if that's what you've seen floating around. A doctored screenshot claiming GTA 6 would need 676.7GB of storage went viral in December 2025, and Rockstar directly shot it down as fake. It was never a real leak, just an edited image that looked convincing enough to spread.

The real number is still unofficial, but credible analyst estimates put the console version somewhere between 200GB and 300GB, which fits with how big other 2025-2026 open-world games have gotten. A lot of that size comes down to how massive Leonida actually is — our detailed look at how Leonida compares to GTA 5's map explains why the world itself is a big part of the storage math.

On PC, expect a similar range, maybe a little higher once you factor in higher-resolution texture packs that PC versions sometimes ship with. Whatever the final number turns out to be, plan on installing it on an SSD rather than an old hard drive — RAGE engine games lean heavily on fast asset streaming, and a slow drive can cause pop-in and stutter no matter how strong your CPU or GPU is.

Can GTA 6 Run on a Low-End PC?

Not comfortably, no — and it's worth being upfront about that. Even the "minimum" tier analysts are predicting (a six-core CPU, 16GB RAM, and a GPU with 8GB of VRAM) is already out of reach for a lot of older prebuilt PCs. If your system has 8GB of RAM or less, a four-core CPU older than around 2018, or a GPU below the RTX 3060 / RX 6600 class, expect a rough time even on the lowest settings, if the game runs at all.

There's some good news for the middle ground, though. Upscaling tools like DLSS and FSR have gotten genuinely good at stretching weaker GPUs into playable frame rates, and Rockstar will almost certainly support at least one of them. That won't fix a genuinely outdated CPU, but it can meaningfully help a slightly older GPU keep up. If you want to see how we approach this kind of breakdown once a game has actually shipped with real numbers, our Mortal Shell 2 PC requirements guide is a useful comparison.

What Are Players Saying?

Reaction across Reddit and YouTube has been a mix of excitement and low-key hardware anxiety. The fake 676GB storage leak caused a short wave of panic before Rockstar's denial calmed things down, and threads asking "should I upgrade now or wait" pop up almost weekly in PC gaming communities. The general mood seems to be cautious patience — most people seem willing to wait for real numbers rather than buy hardware based on guesses, ours included.

Note: everything about GTA 6's PC version, including every spec listed on this page, is an estimate based on trends and history, not an official Rockstar announcement. Treat it as a planning guide, not a shopping list.

What's Next

The next real milestone is the console launch itself on November 19, 2026. After that, keep an eye on Rockstar Newswire and Steam for any sign of a PC announcement — based on how long GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 took to arrive on PC, sometime in 2027 is a fair guess, though Rockstar could easily move faster or slower than its own history suggests. We'll update this page the moment anything official drops.

In the meantime, if you need something to hold you over, we've also rounded up the best horror games of 2026 worth playing while you wait.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an i5 12th Gen run GTA 6?▾
Most likely, yes, at least at 1080p on medium to high settings. Rockstar hasn't confirmed CPU requirements, but an i5-12400 or i5-12600K sits inside the six-core range that analysts expect GTA 6 to ask for. Pair it with a capable GPU like an RTX 4060 or better, since GTA games usually lean more on the graphics card than the processor.
What laptop do I need for GTA 6?▾
Look for a laptop with an RTX 4070 mobile GPU or higher, at least 16GB of RAM (32GB is safer), strong cooling, and an NVMe SSD with plenty of free space. Laptop GPUs run 15 to 20 percent slower than their desktop namesakes and heat up faster, so cooling matters as much as the GPU spec on the sticker.
Can I run GTA 6 on an RTX 4060?▾
Probably, but expect to play at 1080p with textures set to medium rather than high. The RTX 4060's 8GB of video memory is likely to be the limiting factor, not the GPU's raw speed. An RTX 4060 Ti with 16GB gives more breathing room if your budget allows it.
Will GTA 6 need 32GB RAM?▾
It probably won't be a hard requirement. Most estimates suggest 16GB will be enough to run the game, but 32GB is the safer, more comfortable target, especially if you multitask with Discord, a browser, or recording software while you play.
Will GTA 6 be 200GB?▾
A viral claim about a 676GB install size was fake, and Rockstar denied it directly. Realistic estimates based on the console version put GTA 6 somewhere between 200GB and 300GB, in line with other big open-world games released in 2025 and 2026.
Can GTA 6 run on a low-end PC?▾
Not comfortably. Current estimates put the minimum bar at a six-core CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a GPU with at least 8GB of video memory, such as an RTX 3060. A PC older or weaker than that will likely struggle even on the lowest settings.
