How We Picked These Games

We looked at critic scores, Steam player feedback, sales news and how much the community is talking about each game. We have not tried to rank every release of the year, only the ones that stood out. Scores and prices change over time, so we point to rough numbers and link every source at the bottom.

#1 Best Overall
Resident Evil Requiem cover illustration, original artwork by Meta Protago

Resident Evil Requiem

Survival Horror / Action
🎮 PC, PS5, Xbox📅 Feb 27, 2026👨‍💻 Capcom💲 $69.99

Requiem gives you two games in one. As FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, you get slow, scary, first-person horror. As Leon S. Kennedy, you get faster action that feels closer to Resident Evil 4. Leon also heads back to Raccoon City, which longtime fans will love.

✓ Why It Made The List

  • Two play styles in one campaign, so it rarely feels stale
  • Critics scored it around 89 on Metacritic, one of the top scores of 2026
  • Steam players rate it "Overwhelmingly Positive"

✕ Keep In Mind

  • Horror fans and action fans may each prefer one half over the other
  • Full price is $69.99, so waiting for a sale is a fair plan

If you only have room for one big single-player game this year, this is the safest pick. It is scary without being cruel, and the Leon sections give you a break from the tension. Newcomers can jump in without playing older games, though a quick story recap helps.

#2 Best Racing Game
Forza Horizon 6 cover illustration, original artwork by Meta Protago

Forza Horizon 6

Open-World Racing
🎮 PC (Steam), Xbox📅 May 19, 2026👨‍💻 Playground Games🚗 550+ cars

This time the Horizon festival travels to Japan. You drive through busy city streets, mountain roads and quiet countryside in a huge list of cars. It is easy to pick up, and the driving feels good with a controller or a wheel.

✓ Why It Made The List

  • Averaged about 90 on Metacritic, among the best-rated games of 2026
  • Over 550 cars you can customize
  • A great "just one more race" game for relaxed play

✕ Keep In Mind

  • A few critics said it plays things a little too safe
  • Racing is not for everyone, even with a great open world

The series has a long streak of high scores, and this one keeps it going. If you liked earlier Horizon games, you already know what to expect: lots to do, lots to unlock, and very little stress. If you are new to racing games, this is a friendly place to start.

#3 Best Open World
Crimson Desert cover illustration, original artwork by Meta Protago

Crimson Desert

Open-World Action Adventure
🎮 PC, PS5, Xbox, Mac📅 Mar 19, 2026👨‍💻 Pearl Abyss💲 $69.99

Crimson Desert is a giant fantasy world full of fights, side quests and strange activities. It sold over 4 million copies in under two weeks. It is bold, messy and packed with ideas, and that is exactly why people either love it or bounce off it.

✓ Why It Made The List

  • Huge world with a lot of freedom and things to try
  • The developer patched the early control problems quickly
  • Steam reviews climbed from "Mixed" to "Very Positive" after launch

✕ Keep In Mind

  • The story and controls were criticized by reviewers at launch
  • Pearl Abyss said the game does not support Intel Arc GPUs, so check your hardware first

This is the pick for players who want a big, wild sandbox. Some people say it takes around eight hours before it clicks, so give it time before you decide. If you like tidy, polished games, you may prefer Requiem.

#4 Best Value (Early Access)
Subnautica 2 cover illustration, original artwork by Meta Protago

Subnautica 2

Survival / Exploration
🎮 PC, Xbox📅 May 14, 2026 (Early Access)👨‍💻 Unknown Worlds💲 $29.99

You explore a deep, strange ocean, build gear and try to stay alive. This sequel adds four-player co-op, so you can now share the scary bits with friends. It also shipped on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

✓ Why It Made The List

  • Low early access price of $29.99
  • Co-op makes the creepy depths a lot more fun
  • Your early access purchase includes future updates

✕ Keep In Mind

  • It is early access, so bugs and missing features are normal
  • The studio expects 2 to 3 years before version 1.0

This is our value pick because of the price. You get a solid start today and a game that should grow over the next couple of years. If you like finished games only, wait for 1.0. If you want to be part of the journey, dive in now.

#5 Best Recent Release
Control Resonant cover illustration, original artwork by Meta Protago

Control Resonant

Action RPG
🎮 PC, PS5, Xbox📅 Sep 24, 2026👨‍💻 Remedy Entertainment💲 $59.99

Remedy leaves the Oldest House behind and builds a bigger, more action-RPG style sequel. The mix of strange story, bold art and strong powers is classic Remedy. Critics gave it scores in the low-to-mid 80s on Metacritic.

✓ Why It Made The List

  • Great art direction and a weird, memorable world
  • Satisfying powers and combat for many reviewers
  • Reviewers praised its bold look and style

✕ Keep In Mind

  • Some reviewers found the fights repetitive over time
  • PC frame rates can dip at high path tracing settings without upscaling

If you want something different from the usual blockbusters, this is it. It is not perfect, and review scores range from perfect marks to a 3 out of 5, so read a couple of reviews to see if it fits your taste.

World of Warcraft: Forever (November 4)

This is the one most PC players are talking about. Blizzard calls it a third version of WoW, living next to modern WoW and Classic. It is a "Classic+" game that stays at level 60 but adds new content. Blizzard has mentioned three new zones, over 1,000 new quests, nine dungeons, two raids and a new playable race, the Skyborne.

The good news for current players: it is included with an active WoW subscription or Game Time, so there is no extra price for the base game. Launch is at 3 p.m. Pacific time on November 4. It is PC only for now.

Warhammer Survivors and Football Manager 27 (November 10)

November 10 is one of the busiest days. Warhammer Survivors is a fast bullet-hell game that is also on Game Pass on day one. Football Manager 27 is the yearly update for soccer management fans. Shrek 2 Remastered and Ashes of the Singularity II land the same day, so there is something for almost every taste.

Just before November: A few big games came out in late October too, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (October 23), Phantom Blade Zero (October 28) and The Wolf Among Us Remastered (October 29). Looking ahead, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is listed for December 3 and Path of Exile 2 is set to leave early access on December 11.

Is GTA 6 Coming to PC?

You have probably seen this question everywhere, so let us keep it simple. GTA 6 is coming on November 19, 2026, but only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or a PC date. Xbox has also said the game will not be streamed to PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch.

Some reports say a PC version could arrive in early 2027. That has not been confirmed by Rockstar, so treat it as a rumor. For context, GTA 5 took around 19 months to reach PC after its console launch, which is why many fans expect a wait. Take-Two's CEO has also said the delay is meant to serve the console audience first.

Note: Any "official" GTA 6 PC specs or PC prices you see online are guesses. Rockstar has not shared them. We keep our own explainer updated at GTA 6 PC requirements 2026 if anything changes.

Want to know what to expect on consoles? We have a full breakdown of GTA 6 pre-order news, price and editions, and a side-by-side look at the GTA 6 map vs GTA 5 map. The good news for PC players: with GTA 6 out of the way on consoles, November has lots of other games to keep you busy.

What to Play If You Have a Small Budget

Not everyone wants to pay $70. Subnautica 2 at $29.99 is the easiest win on this list. WoW: Forever costs nothing extra if you already have a WoW subscription. Many November indie games are cheaper too, and Game Pass subscribers get Warhammer Survivors and Gravhounds at no extra cost. Playing with friends? Our list of the best Gen Z games in 2026 has party, online and PC picks that are easy to jump into together.
