GTA 6 map size is suddenly the most searched question in gaming. On August 18, 2026, a hacker leaked what it claims is the full Leonida map. Here's the real GTA 6 map size story — what leaked, what's disputed, and how it stacks up against GTA 5.
This is the biggest map story since Rockstar's 2022 breach. It also lands just nine days before Rockstar's own official reveal. Below, we break down every leaked county, every size estimate, and what you should still doubt.
- A leak on August 18, 2026 claims to reveal the full GTA 6 map size and layout.
- Two gameplay clips leaked alongside it are treated as genuine by most outlets.
- GTA 6 map size is estimated at roughly 2 to 2.7 times GTA 5's map.
- Six counties are named: Vice-Dale, Lummox, Ambrosia, Kelly, Leonard, and Mariana.
- Rockstar's official "Extended Look" airs August 27, 2026, ahead of the November 19 launch.
GTA 6 Map Size Background: Why It's Such a Big Deal
Grand Theft Auto 6 takes players to Leonida, a Florida-style state built around a new Vice City. Rockstar confirmed the setting in December 2023, then showed more of it in a second trailer in May 2025. Since then, Rockstar has stayed quiet on the one number fans want most: GTA 6 map size.
That silence pushed fans to build their own maps using trailer footage and pieces of the 2022 Rockstar breach. For more on what Rockstar has actually confirmed about the game, see our breakdown of confirmed GTA 6 gameplay features.
With pre-orders already open and launch just months away, any new leak spreads fast — real or fake.
What Leaked on August 18
The leak came from a hacker group calling itself Cyberleek. It first appeared on Imgur, then spread across the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit. The post included two short gameplay clips and one image claiming to show the entire map.
The gameplay clips show some genuinely new details. There's a six-star wanted level, a stamina meter for fistfights, and fuel and engine gauges on vehicles. A karma system also appears to track the choices protagonist Jason makes.
"These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."
Rockstar Games — Statement on the November 19, 2026 release dateJournalists including Bloomberg's Jason Schreier have treated the gameplay clips as real. Take-Two responded fast, filing copyright takedowns on X, Streamable, and Reddit. That's a normal response to leaks — it isn't proof either way.
Named Counties in the GTA 6 Map Size Leak
According to the leaked image, Leonida is divided into six labeled areas:
- Vice-Dale County — the downtown core around Vice City, expected to be denser than downtown Los Santos was in GTA 5.
- Lummox County — a rural region in the north of the map.
- Ambrosia County — home to the Ambrosia theme park area shown in Trailer 2.
- Kelly County — a newly labeled region with no confirmed details yet.
- Leonard County — another newly labeled region, also unconfirmed.
- Mariana County — the southern keys, stretching into the ocean like the real Florida Keys.
A large lake, nicknamed Lake Leonida by fans, sits near the map's center. An airport is also visible in the Vice-Dale area, matching earlier trailer footage.
GTA 6 Map Size vs. GTA 5: Full Comparison
This is the number everyone wants: real GTA 6 map size. Rockstar has never published an official square-mile figure for either game. Every number below comes from the fan community, not Rockstar itself.
| Map | Commonly Cited Size | Source of Estimate |
|---|---|---|
| GTA 5 (Los Santos & Blaine County) | ~29–49 sq mi (75–127 km²) | Community measurement, never officially confirmed |
| GTA 6 (Leonida, per Aug. 18 leak) | ~2.1x GTA 5 | Fan analysis of the leaked map image |
| GTA 6 (per long-running mapping project) | ~2 to 2.5x GTA 5 | Years of trailer & landmark triangulation |
| GTA 6 (per Reddit coordinate analysis) | ~2.4 to 2.7x GTA 5 | Distance comparisons between known landmarks |
The numbers don't perfectly agree. Different projects measure land only, land plus water, or the full playable boundary, and that changes the total. Still, almost every source lands in the same range: two to nearly three times bigger than GTA 5.

Why GTA 6 Map Size Estimates Keep Changing
New trailers and leaks nudge these numbers every few months. The main fan mapping project has grown a lot over time. Its working grid expanded from a rough 16,000 x 6,000 units to an 18,000 x 18,000-unit canvas as more footage came in.
Community Reaction to the GTA 6 Map Size Debate
Reaction to the leak is split down the middle. Some fans are hyped about the scale, especially the size of Vice-Dale County. Others think the layout looks too close to Los Santos in structure.
A large chunk of the community doubts the map image altogether and is waiting for Rockstar's own reveal before forming an opinion.
